2 Timothy 2:5 KJV Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The Bible is the most important book ever written.

It is the only book that helps us understand:

  • Who God is
  • How God created mankind
  • What we are to believe and do to spend eternity with God
  • What is our identity
  • What is our purpose
  • What are the God-given gifts God gives to each believer who has an obedient faith and is immersed (baptized in water) for the remission of sins (Romans 6; Acts 2:38)

God gives spiritual gifts to His children for the purpose of equipping the saints for the work of ministry and for edifying the body of Christ until we all come to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, that we should no longer be tossed to and fro by false teachings (Ephesians 4:11 – 14)

The student should approach the Bible in a reverent manner, acknowledging it as the inspired Word of God and not as an ordinary book.

The Bible Can be Read or Studied

Reading is defined as – to understand the meaning of written words or symbols; interpret mentally

Study is defined as – give one’s attention to acquiring knowledge

Daily Bible study is one of the most important spiritual disciplines we can practice. Our hearts and minds are constantly overwhelmed with distractions. Effective Bible study will help your spiritual growth.

The Bible is like spiritual food. Just as the physical body needs food daily, our spirits need to be fed with the Word of God daily. We should hunger and thirst after God’s way of living.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled

Haphazardly reading the Bible has some value, but studying the Bible helps one to commune with God and apply the truths of Scripture to the individual needs of the student.

I encourage you to study God’s Holy Word as seeking hidden treasure.

3 Methods of Bible Study

Gather your Bible, pen, paper and highlighters, find a quiet place, start with prayer

  1. Topical

Choose a topic (salvation, forgiveness, love, anxiety, etc.)

  1. Biographical

Choose a person in the Bible and study their lives using the 5 W’s (who were they, what did they do, why did they do it, when did it happen, where did they live), then ask yourself do I possess the same characteristics as this person. Remember people in the Bible are just like you and I. Some were good and some were evil.

  1. Book

Choose a book to study (ex. Philippians – apply the 5 W’s to each chapter of the book and then ask yourself how do the truths in this book apply to my life, am I obedient to the Word of God)

When Jesus Returns Every Soul Will be Judged by the Bible

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.
